Lalibela is a town in the Amhara Region of Ethiopia, known for its rock-hewn churches, which were carved out of solid rock in the 12th century under the direction of King Lalibela.
The churches are a UNESCO World Heritage Site renowned for their architectural and historical significance.
There are 11 medieval monolithic churches in Lalibela, each with its own unique architectural style and design. These churches are divided into two main groups, known as the Northern and Southern clusters.
