Buddhist young monk (Cambodia).
The Buddhist monk life is deeply rooted in the principles and practices of Buddhism.
Young boys may enter the monastic life as novices, usually around the age of seven.
Novices who wish to fully commit to the monastic life undergo a formal ordination process.
Buddhist monks adhere to a strict set of rules known as the Vinaya, which governs their conduct and way of life and including rules for personal behavior, communal living, and interactions with the laity.
Monks typically follow a disciplined daily routine.
This includes early morning alms rounds, during which monks walk through the community to collect food offerings from laypeople. Afterward, they return to the monastery for breakfast.
The rest of the day may involve meditation, study, and communal activities.
Monks play an active role in their communities.
Apart from providing spiritual guidance, they may be involved in various community service activities, such as education, healthcare, and charity work.
Ascetic Lifestyle: Monks embrace an ascetic lifestyle, renouncing material possessions and worldly attachments. Their robes, alms bowl, and a few basic necessities are typically the extent of their personal belongings.
