Daily life scenes along the Avenue of the Baobabs (Madagascar).
The Avenue of the Baobabs is one of Madagascar’s most iconic and photographed natural landmarks. Situated near the town of Morondava on the island’s west coast, this striking dirt road is lined with towering Grandidier’s baobabs (Adansonia grandidieri), a species found only in Madagascar. Some of these ancient trees reach heights of up to 30 meters (nearly 100 feet) and are estimated to be over 1,000 years old.
The Avenue is not only a popular tourist destination but also an important part of local daily life. Villagers often travel the road by foot or by cart, and the area serves as a backdrop for everyday activities such as farming, gathering water, and socializing. Despite its fame, the site remains unprotected, and conservation efforts are ongoing to preserve the baobabs and their surrounding ecosystem from deforestation and agricultural expansion.
